Behavioral Data for Hiring, Team Design, and Leadership Development
Predictive Index is a scientifically validated behavioral assessment platform used by more than 10,000 companies worldwide. The system measures four core behavioral factors—Dominance, Extraversion, Patience, and Formality—providing objective data on how individuals approach work and interact with others. As a Predictive Index Certified Consultant, I use these behavioral insights to help leadership teams improve communication, collaboration, and performance. Whether you're building a leadership team, improving team dynamics, or making critical hiring decisions, PI provides the behavioral intelligence to make better people decisions.
SCIENTIFIC VALIDATION
Predictive Index has been validated through more than 350 studies over 60 years of commercial use. The behavioral assessment earned EFPA certification in 2018, confirming it meets the strict standards of leading psychology experts for reliability, validity, and fairness.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
PI goes beyond assessment to action. The platform includes tools for team dynamics analysis, job role modeling, and candidate fit evaluation—giving leaders a complete system for hiring, development, and team optimization rather than just individual profiles.
WORKPLACE FOCUS
Unlike general personality assessments, Predictive Index was developed exclusively for workplace application. The four behavioral factors directly address how people work, communicate, make decisions, and collaborate—providing immediately actionable insights for business contexts.

Understanding Behavior to Build Better Teams
OVERVIEW
Arnold Daniels founded The Predictive Index in 1955 after developing a lifelong passion for the psychology behind successful teams during his time as a U.S. Army flight navigator. His work culminated in the PI Behavioral Assessment, which has been used by organizations worldwide for more than six decades as a trusted measure of workplace behavior.
The assessment takes approximately six minutes to complete and measures four primary behavioral drives: Dominance (the degree to which someone seeks to control their environment), Extraversion (the degree to which someone seeks social interaction), Patience (the degree to which someone seeks consistency and stability), and Formality (the degree to which someone seeks to conform to rules and structure). These factors combine to predict how individuals will behave in given workplace situations.
COMPONENTS
Predictive Index provides a comprehensive talent optimization platform that connects behavioral data to business outcomes. The system includes assessment tools, analysis capabilities, and practical applications that help organizations make better people decisions across the employee lifecycle.
Behavioral Assessment
The PI Behavioral Assessment measures an individual's natural behavioral drives and workplace motivations. Results are displayed as behavioral patterns and categorized into one of 17 Reference Profiles, providing a shorthand for understanding work styles, communication preferences, decision-making approaches, and risk tolerance.
Cognitive Assessment
The PI Cognitive Assessment measures learning ability and cognitive agility—how quickly someone can absorb new information, adapt to changing situations, and solve complex problems. Combined with behavioral data, this provides a complete picture of how someone will perform in a given role.
Team Dynamics Analysis
PI's team analysis tools reveal how individual behavioral profiles interact within a group. This diagnostic capability identifies potential friction points, communication gaps, and collaboration challenges—essential for building high-performance leadership teams.
Job Assessment & Fit Analysis
The platform allows you to model the behavioral requirements of specific roles and evaluate candidate fit against those requirements. This transforms hiring from intuition-based decisions to data-driven selection aligned with actual job demands.
TARGET
Predictive Index delivers the most value for organizations focused on building high-performance leadership teams and making better hiring decisions. The behavioral insights are particularly powerful for companies experiencing growth that requires adding or restructuring leadership roles, leadership teams struggling with communication, collaboration, or decision-making dynamics, and organizations looking to move beyond gut-feel hiring to a more objective, data-driven process.
Different strategies require different team compositions. PI helps you understand whether your current team has the behavioral profiles needed to execute your strategy—and where gaps or friction may be undermining performance.
CERTIFICATION
The Predictive Index maintains a global network of more than 700 Certified Partners who implement the platform with client organizations. Certification involves extensive training in the assessment methodology, interpretation frameworks, and software platform.
My certification process included comprehensive online learning followed by in-person training at The Predictive Index facilities in Boston. The program covered the assessment's scientific foundation and history, application strategies across hiring, development, and team dynamics, readback techniques and profile interpretation, team dynamics diagnostics, and mastery of the PI software system for administration, analysis, and reporting.
This training ensures certified consultants can translate behavioral data into actionable insights that drive real business outcomes.
MY APPROACH
I partnered with Predictive Index to add behavioral profiling to my strategic coaching toolkit. While frameworks like Scaling Up and 3HAG/Metronomics address strategy, execution, and operational systems, PI provides something different—objective data on the human dynamics that determine whether those systems actually work.
Behavioral data offers an orthogonal perspective to traditional performance reviews and skill assessments. PI reveals root behaviors and motivations: why certain team members clash, why communication breaks down, why some leaders thrive in ambiguity while others need structure. This understanding is essential for improving team dynamics, communication, and collaboration.
I've also learned that different strategies require different team profiles. A company pursuing aggressive market expansion needs different behavioral composition than one focused on operational excellence. PI provides not just individual assessments but team-level analysis that helps match leadership team dynamics to strategic requirements.
I integrate PI into my executive coaching and team development work, using behavioral insights to inform hiring decisions, improve leadership team alignment, and diagnose performance issues that stem from behavioral friction rather than skill gaps. Combined with my other certifications in strategy, leadership, and performance, this gives me a comprehensive toolkit for building high-performance organizations.
